Merriam-Webster defines a Renaissance Man as: a person who has wide interests and is an expert in several areas.  They define an Outdoorsman as: one who spends much time in the outdoors or in outdoor activities.  Combining the two together to establish the Renaissance Outdoorsman is a specific notion that folks should embrace knowledge of the outdoors, develop their skills as fully as possible, and preserve the environment that helps them thrive.  It’s more than fishing, hunting, or gathering … it’s also cooking, sewing, and creating useful things from raw materials.  A Renaissance Outdoorsman has the confidence and ability to be completely self-sufficient in a natural setting.  In modern society this is certainly more of an ideal than anything originating from necessity, but for those of us who find solace in nature, being a Renaissance Outdoorsman is a way to live.  It provides us with the means to connect with our environment, the people we care about, and especially ourselves, in a way that completes our very being.
